Pho-getabout it! Kim's Pho is Slurping Good!

To get it out of the way early, yes, I know the correct pronunciation of the word "Pho" is "FA." So, the title should be read, "FAGETABOUTIT" in a northeaster accent. Now, back to our visit! When I moved to the Tulsa area back in 2017, I was immediately on the search for a solid restaurant that offered Pho with deep, rich, luxurious broth and pieces of meat which were both large and tasty. I also wanted that same place to have shrimp rolls with peanut sauce. Why such specific standards? Easy, while I lived in Oklahoma City, there were several very good Vietnamese-inspired and/or owned restaurants that I would frequent...I needed one to call my own in Tulsa.

I've tried several, but always came back to Kim's Pho is Owasso. Let's start with the base. Her Pho broth is complex. It isn't just water with some garlic or ginger, they are using a litany of different spices and, I think they are either using some sort of base or maybe even bone marrow or fallow (not sure). Anyway, the broth itself is giving, so when I order their brisket and meat Pho, it hits the spot. All standard accompaniments are included. Bean sprouts, basil, jalapeño and a couple of lemon wedges. If you are a Pho aficionado, you know this allows you to control exactly how you'd like to experience your soup. I like mine with a trailing warmth at the end of each bite.

The shrimp rolls are outstanding. A contagion of three shrimp wrapped in rice paper with

vermicelli and basil. So simple and so good. I dip each one in a small ramekin of peanut sauce. Generally, I will add either siracha or a chili oil to the peanut sauce to give it a kick.

I was going to grab a tea before I left, but I didn't remember, so that will allow me something to look forward to on my return. Candidly, I do feel like Pho is more expensive than it used to be, and the $18 lunch with tip seemed a bit steep (this included an unsweet ice tea). That being said, I can only think of one other place I have eaten in the Tulsa-area I think competes with Kim's.
