I couldn’t think of a better place from which to kick-off our first official review. Located on historic Route 66 between Verdigris and Claremore, Oklahoma, The Chatroom occupies an unassuming long and low building adjacent to a used car dealership.

Walking into the restaurant, one is immediately hit with an over saturation of the senses. My eyes still adjust from the sunlight to find myself inside a colorful mix of Asian-influenced table dressing and what appears to be a dance floor situation. All of these very bright and welcoming colors hide clues to the previous establishments including the left over Mexican restaurant influence obvious on the doors of the public restrooms. The vibrance showering the senses didn't stop with my eyes. The sounds of clanging in the kitchen, patrons slurping and laughing and the the smells, boy howdy, those smells are the best!

The first aroma that hit me were the peppers with a hint of Asian spices. The smell of wok-fried ingredients, chicken, shrimp, stock...was it my imagination, I think not!

Seating is up to each patron, so I found a booth in the corner. Dining alone, I ordered the Beef Pho and Salad Rolls.

Unfortunately, they were out of summer rolls, so I changed to the Shrimp Tempura.

The shrimp came our first. It was served on a small plate accompanied by a bowl of sweet sauce. The sauce was tasty, but thin. I mixed the sauce with Siracha and it added a great texture as well as added a much needed spicy to the sweet sauces. Also presented at the time of the shrimp dish arrival were the accoutrement to be use with the upcoming Pho.

The Pho was served quickly and was in a very generous bowl. I ordered the small bowl, I can only imagine what the large-bowl option would have been. Before I added anything to the pilling hot soup, I took a taste of the broth and steak. Both were flavorful by themselves. Of course, the onions were adding a nice balance and I enjoyed a deep beefy flower in the broth, I’m tempted to say beef bone or bone marrow was added, but I don’t know that for certain.

After adding shoots, cilantro, cilantro and like, I had dialed the Pho in exactly how I love it! There wasn’t much I didn’t love about the Pho, shrimp appetizer or Asian-inspired, eclectic space. I enjoyed the balance of patrons from those stopping on lunch break to families enjoying time together.

The menu has a good variety of different Asian fusion dishes including sushi and some other plated meals such as Pad Thai or Teriyaki Chicken and Beef.

THE CHATROOM MENU AS OF JANUARY 2026

So, the last question is the value. The meal is appropriately priced. It wasn’t a “budget meal” how were, the $23 meal (with an ice tea and tip) was about what I expected to pay.

Overall, I enjoyed my visit to The Chatroom. This was not my first time, however, it was my first visit during which I focused solely on the environment, food and price. I've enjoyed this restaurant with my family and friends and will visit again.
