Everything Old is New Again! Grazi!

Mama Mia! Luigi's Italian Restaurant, a mainstay of Skiatook, has come to PLAY! Last week, we took a little drive over to Owasso to check out the recently-opened Luigi's Italian Restaurant. We have eaten at their Skiatook location several times, but this was a first for us. During the 20 minute drive, Cindy and I kept trying to remember the place that was there prior to Luigi's moving in - then realized it wasn't our favorite and the name of the place may have been "cute" to some, but a branding nightmare (three guesses if you can remember and pronounce it correctly).

It was hopping last Saturday night, but luckily we were able to enjoy our meal at one of their booths. The place looks great inside. You can barely see the shadow of the brewery which stood there before. Upon entering, another table of patrons had an order of their Bruschetta, so we made sure we ordered that promptly.

Cindy started out with a glass of Cavicchioli Labrusco and I had a Sparkling Limoncello. Before our Bruschetta arrived, we were served four warm and soft rolls with Luigi's signature garlic oil. They were to die for! The rolls are soft and delicate and the addition of the garlic oil boosted the flavor profile.

Our Bruschetta was served on a wood cutting board. The bread was light and airy, but crisp and toasted on the outer edges. The mixture of tomatoes, garlic and onions was good, but a bit dry. Both of us added some of the oil over the top of the Bruschetta and it was so much better! I liked the appetizer much more than Cindy, but I think it was a matter of taste preference, not the actual food item.

We both wanted a small Greek salad to go with our meal, but they unfortunately don't have one on the menu. However, we did opt to split their salad and I am so glad we did. For any couple, I would absolutely suggest this as an option. It was the PERFECT amount for both of us. The greens were fresh, the olive just brined enough and the feta cheese was a nice added piece of sour fat.

It was time for the main event! Cindy ordered her normal, Luigi's Special which is a mixture

of meats and cheese over a spaghetti noodle. Cindy stuck with water for her meal and I ordered a glass of the Bonanza Cabernet Sauvignon with my Lobster Ravioli. Cindy could not stop saying how good the food was and how nice the sauce and meats combined. The Lobster Ravioli had a healthy amount of lobster stuffing with cheese and a little panko. The sauce seemed to be a mixture of their alfredo and red sauce - very good.

Although we thought we wouldn't be able to even think about dessert, we were tempted with

their lemon cake. We originally thought we would eat a bit and take it home with us, but after we shared the cake (three bites each), the sweet was gone and didn't leave us feeling anything but satisfied!

So what was the damage? The cost of our Saturday night date night was $157.34 including tip. Three drinks, appetizer, two entrees and one dessert. It was a hair more than what we anticipated, but all-in-all, felt it worth it! If you haven't made it over to the new Luigi's location in Owasso, please go check it out!
