Mi Familia! Habaneros Mexican Grill

I was treated to a surprise lunch by my friend and flight sim colleague York! After a visit with Mom in Broken Arrow, I met him to swap some equipment. In turn, he was gracious enough to invite me to lunch and suggested Habaneros Mexican Grill in Broken Arrow!

When I first pulled up, I knew I was going to be in for a treat. This place appears to have taken over a previous Braun’s Ice Cream. They have done a great job in converting the architecture and decor including a lovely patio outside - wish it had been warm enough to eat outside. Some patrons were out there, but still a little early for me.

Greeted by a friendly staff, you can tell this is a family-owned establishment. We were seated promptly and brought chips and a few choices in salsa. There was a standard red as well as a

smoky chipotle salsa and a Verde salsa. They were all good, but the flavor of the smoky salsa with the freshness of the chips was delish.

York and I both ordered off the lunch combo section of the menu. I had the Lunch Combo #2, a enchiladas and taco meal with rice and beans. I did ask for the borracha beans and mixed my rice into my beans - so good. York orders the Lunch Combo #3, a burrito lunch

with rice and beans. He opted for the standard refried beans and they looked great.

Speaking of the menu, it is extensive. Especially, if you think this is a very local-driven restaurant. The service was present but not intrusive. How did the food taste?

As mentioned, my rice and beans was great, the taco, which I asked for beef was flavorful with fresh vegetables. My enchilada was filled with chicken smothered with a nice Verde sauce. The enchilada was good, I do wish the chicken had been seasoned just a bit more. I pulled some out of the enchiladas and it seemed to be basically boiled or soft roasted with little additional spice. That being said, overall a nice meal.

As we wrapped up, York and I sat and had a nice conversation and refills were offered while sitting. Once again, great service, but not overly present - I liked that.

As he and I walked out, the temps had risen and I will say I may have regretted not sitting outside - oh well, that means I can visit again, eat a fresco and maybe get one of their margaritas!  I left feeling like a member of their family! If you’re ever in south Broken Arrow, make sure you find this little gem on S. Elm.
